On August 29th, join the international publishing community and travel to the Philippines 🇵🇭 Learn about its diverse literary influences and burgeoning creative industries, and tagay (share a drink) with our amazing guests 🥂

Together, we will also take a look ahead to Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, which will host the Philippines as Guest of Honour. Plus: enjoy live music, mindfulness and meet the worldwide community in our breakout rooms!  

Charisse Aquino Tugade is the Executive Director of the National Book Development Board (NBDB). She is a cultural worker, primary mover for CulturAid, founder of The Manila Collectible Co., and founding Director of Museo ng Muntinlupa.

As the NBDB Executive Director, she envisioned and spearheaded The Book Nook, storytelling and reading communities in indigenous and isolated areas around the islands, as well as the Philippine Book Festival, the country’s first and largest traveling book fair. She currently serves as a Co-Director of the Philippines as Guest of Honour at the 2025 Frankfurter Buchmesse.

At The Hof, Charisse will share insights into the unique publishing market of her home country (7.641 islands! 110 languages!) , and also offer a look into the Philippine’s presence at Frankfurt Book Fair.

Jose Dalisay is a writer & Professor Emeritus at University of the Philippines. Jose has published over 40 books of fiction and nonfiction, and his two novels Killing Time in a Warm Place and Soledad’s Sister have been translated and published in Italian, French, Spanish, and German editions. He is currently working on a novel set in Manila in the 1930s, and on a screenplay based on one of his short stories.

At The Hof, Jose will dive into the Philippine way of storytelling and share details about his upcoming European book tour.

Jay Ignacio is an author, musician, actor, documentary filmmaker, and improvisational theatre veteran. A recording artist from 1996 to 2002, Jay taught Recording Technology and Sound Design at the College of St. Benilde. As an actor he appeared in many sitcoms, a movie, and co-founded the Silly People’s Improv Theatre (SPIT), as well as the Philippines’ first school for improvisational theatre known as Third World Improv. His graphic novel Alandal won the 2022 National Children’s Book Award for Best Reads, and the 2023 National Book Award for Best Graphic Novel in English.

At The Hof, Jay will explain how Philippine martial arts has not only found a way into his own life and work, but has influenced popular culture all around the world.
